Win and vital points for Octane Finance-backed racer Harry King
Octane Finance-backed racer Harry King remains in contention for championship honours on two fronts after a hectic spell of three race meetings in three weekends.
Two rounds of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup were followed by the resumption of his programme in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, with Harry showing front-running pace throughout as he continues his bid for a third Porsche title.
The busy run of action kicked off with round four of the Supercup campaign in Hungary, where Harry was chasing his second win of the season in his BWT Lechner Racing-run car.
A stunning weekend saw Harry break the qualifying lap record to score a maiden pole position before a dominant run in the race saw him storm to victory - setting a new race lap record in the process.
From there, Harry headed directly to Spa for round five but he was left on the back foot following a five-place grid penalty handed out for exceeding track limits in practice.
It left him to start the race from eighth place, but Harry showed his pace with an impressive drive through the pack to fourth; his bid for a podium finish only being halted by the arrival of rain that saw the action halted early for safety reasons.
The results from the back-to-back meetings leave Harry second in the points, 13 points behind team-mate Bastian Buus, ahead of the next event at Zandvoort, which will feature two races for the only time this season.
Harry’s next stop was the Nürburgring as his Carrera Cup Deutschland programme resumed after the summer break, with the meeting marking the first time Harry had competed at the Eifel circuit.
Qualifying third for the opening race of the weekend, Harry moved into second spot going into turn one and held position to the finish to wrap up a fifth podium of the season with the Allied-Racing team.
Traffic in qualifying had restricted Harry to eleventh on the grid for race two but a battling drive in awful wet conditions saw him fight his way to fifth place despite multiple safety cars restricting the number of racing laps.
Although an unfortunate penalty for contact dropped him to ninth in the final results, Harry again holds second in the points ahead of the next round of the German series at the Lausitzring.
"Hungary was a fantastic weekend to kick off a busy spell, and having scored my first pole, I was delighted to secure a second win of the Supercup season," he said. "It was a result of the hard work we had put in during testing earlier in the year, and a vital result for the championship.
"The grid penalty at Spa hampered our chances of another win, but I was pleased with the pace we showed to get up to the fringes of the podium and although it was a shame to miss out on silverware, we scored good points to remain right in contention at the top ahead of Zandvoort.
"Going back to the Deutschland series was a bit of a step into the unknown as I’d never raced at the Nürburgring before but we showed good pace to secure P3 on the grid for race one. The podium was a good place to start and fifth on the road in race two considering how bad the conditions were was also pleasing.
"The penalty was a shame but we still finished higher than we qualified and have retained second in the standings going into the next round."
