We reveal the hidden ‘Easter eggs’ in cars
Discover some of the surprise secrets your car has been keeping from you!
Easter eggs in cars you say? Well yes, but not the chocolate kind! Instead, the types of ‘Easter eggs’ we’re talking about are the hidden pictures, messages or symbols that manufacturers sneak into their model of car without many people noticing… Until now!
Some of you may have already spotted a picture etched into the interior of your car and wondered what it was doing there, and some of you may be wondering if we’ve gone mad! We promise we haven’t, as you’ll see when reading all about the hidden ‘Easter eggs’ in cars - how many will you find?!
The 10 best in-car Easter eggs
What cars are hiding Easter eggs in plain sight? You’ll be surprised at the secrets right in front of your eyes! In alphabetical order, here’s our top 10 to tick off the list…
1 - BMW Z4 letter ‘Z’ Easter egg
BMW takes the trophy for quite possibly the largest hidden Easter egg, which can be found on every Z4 model it produces. Look at the side of the car and you’ll see defining lines that etch out the letter ‘Z’ horizontally from the roof, diagonally along the panelling and finishing off with another horizontal line along the bottom of the door. Once you spot it, you’ll never be able to look at a Z4 in the same way again!
2 - Jaguar E-PACE animal Easter egg
Just like its namesake, Jaguar boasts a roaringly-good Easter egg displayed on the windscreen of its E-PACE model. Mummy Jaguar is accompanied by its cub as shown within the silhouette image of the playful pair along the bottom edge of the windscreen.
3 - Jeep Renegade spider Easter egg
If you’re not a fan of spiders then don’t let us put you off, as the arachnid hiding inside the Jeep Renegade is merely a piece of plastic. So where can you find the eight-legged little fella? Well, when you lift the fuel flap to fill up at the pumps, you’ll be greeted with the Jeep Renegade spider in the bottom right-hand corner accompanied by the words ‘CIAO BABY!’ for a more friendly and less frightful greeting.
4 - MINI Cooper climate control Easter egg
As a MINI owner, you may never have noticed the easter egg hidden in the design of the car’s climate controls. If not, take a closer look and you’ll see that the controls used to adjust the air conditioning in the cabin resemble the shape of the manufacturer's famously-winged MINI Cooper logo.
5 - Renault Twingo RS gaming-themed Easter egg
It may have been discontinued, but there are still many Renault Twingo RS models on the road today that boast a secret on board. A playful little Easter egg for gaming fans, the footpads of the driver’s clutch, brake and accelerator pedal feature the symbols of pause, stop and play from a gaming controller.
6 - Skoda Octavia ice scraper Easter egg
In-car hidden Easter eggs don’t just have to be for fun, but they can be functional too as proven by the Skoda Octavia model. Owners will be pleasantly surprised to find a handy ice scraper tucked away on the inside flap of the fuel cap, ready for those frosty days. We think it’s a brr-illiant idea!
7 - Skoda Superb umbrella Easter egg
The Skoda brand is showing off with not one, but two incredibly useful hidden Easter eggs. Helping to prepare its owner for the wet weather (and we certainly have a lot of that here in the UK!) expect to find an umbrella stowed away in the driver’s door just underneath the armrest. It’s a clever use of space and extremely practical too!
8 - Tesla’s Christmas-themed Easter egg
Not content with adding an Easter egg to just one of his vehicles, Tesla owner Elon Musk has added a whole basket full of Easter eggs to his entire range of EV’s. Our favourite by far has to be Tesla’s ‘Santa Mode’ which is a fabulously festive addition during the Christmas period.
Santa Mode will turn the car’s in-screen display to feature Santa and his reindeer pulling a Tesla sleigh full of presents, which mimics the journey you’re taking. Although instead of tarmac roads full of potholes, the open road will be snow-filled just like the North Pole.
For an extra sprinkling of Christmas spirit, Tesla’s in-car voice activated system will play the song ‘Run Rudolph Run’ when you say the words “HO HO HO” out loud like Santa Claus, or for a tongue-in-cheek melody, shout the words “HO HO HO NOT FUNNY” to hear the song ‘Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer’ played through the speakers instead. Hours of fun to be had!
9 - Vauxhall Corsa shark Easter egg
Even the UK’s best-selling supermini is getting in on the Easter egg action with its sea-themed surprise. This toothy addition can be found in the form of a shark lurking around areas within the cabin… Some driver’s have spotted Jaws moulded in the lid of their glovebox, while others have found the meat-eater on the plastic frame below the front seat. Where will you find yours?
10 - Volvo XC90 eight-legged Easter egg
Not to be outshone by the Jeep Renegade, Volvo’s XC90 model has a webbed Easter egg surprise of its own. Boasting a collapsible third row of seats in the rear, it’s in the lid of the storage bins behind these where you’ll find incy wincy spider lurking… Discover him moulded on a web underneath the lid giving a cheeky grin.
