Perfect Start For Octane Finance Backed Harry King
Octane Finance-backed driver Harry King enjoyed the perfect start to his Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux campaign with a stunning performance on track at Spa in the opening weekend of the season.
Harry headed to the home of the Belgium Grand Prix to kick off his third season running in Octane Finance colours following a hugely successful two year stint competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain - where he won the championship title in his debut season.
Continuing with the same Parker Revs Motorsport team that had run him in the Mobil 1 Porsche Superup last season, Harry went into the weekend hoping to lay down a marker as he looks to add another title to his already impressive career resume.
Topping the times in free practice ahead of the weekend, Harry then qualified on pole position with a storming lap that was comfortably clear of the chasing pack behind.
That left him in the perfect position for the opening race of the weekend on Friday afternoon, and he led the field through turn one for the first time.
Within half a lap of the start, Harry has already started to edge away from the field behind and by the time the 30 minute race came to an end, had established an advantage of more than 15 seconds at the front whilst also posting the fastest lap.
With the second best times from qualifying deciding the grid for race two, Harry once again started from pole position and led the field into turn one when the lights went out.
His charge to victory was halted by a safety car period after a clash further down the field, which allowed the cars behind to close up for a three minute sprint to the flag.
Despite that Harry was still able to establish a handy advantage before the chequered flag dropped to take win number two, with the fastest lap once again going his way.
It means Harry holds a 100 per cent record in the series, having also taken a double victory in a guest outing at the Red Bull Ring last year.
"It was great to be back in the Octane Finance colours for the start of our third season together," he said. "I’m also pleased to be back in the Benelux championship after my one-off outing last season, and the opening weekend could really have got any better.
"Pole was a good start and it was fantastic to convert it into two wins with fastest lap to get the maximum we could from the weekend.
"I'm looking forward to the remainder of the season and visiting some new circuits that I haven't raced at before. I know the opposition will make it tough, but hopefully we can carry this form into the rounds to come."
