Octane Finance Racer Harry King Wraps Up Porsche Carrera Cup Title

Octane Finance-backed racer Harry King wrapped up the Porsche Carrera Cup GB title in fine style with another dominant weekend on track at Snetterton.

The rapid youngster, who is the current Porsche GB Junior driver, headed into the penultimate rounds of the season sitting 28 points ahead of his Team Parker Racing team-mate Josh Webster in the standings and aware that the championship title could be won if results went his way.

Qualifying on Saturday evening around the longest circuit on the calendar would be a hard-fought affair, but Harry once again came out on top as he put the #19 Porsche on top of the times - setting two laps that would have been quick enough to secure pole.

Amazingly that means he has now topped qualifying in each of the seven meetings held so far this season in his first year in Britain’s fastest one-make series.

A damp circuit was waiting when Harry took to the track for race one on Sunday morning and, in a rare occurrence, he was beaten off the line by one of his rivals and slipped out of the race lead.

However, going into turn one, Harry was able to sweep back into the race lead and wasn’t headed from there on - setting the fastest lap as he secure victory for the ninth time this season.

Fourth on the reverse grid for race two, Harry wasted little time in making his way to the front, stealing third place on the opening lap and then clearing the remaining two cars with fine moves at Snetterton’s two hairpin bends to lead before the end of lap two.

Win number ten of the season, and another fastest lap, was more than enough to give Harry an unassailable lead in the standings with one round of the season still to run at Brands Hatch next month.

It means back-to-back titles for the highly talented teenager, with his Carrera Cup title coming hot on the wheels of winning the Ginetta GT4 Supercup twelve months ago.

"During pre-season testing, I knew we had a good car and that myself and Josh would be strong this season," he said. "I didn’t want to get carried away but when we then went to Donington Park and put the car on pole for the first race, I knew that we would be able to challenge for the championship.

"To win the title with a round to spare is fantastic, and I can’t put into words how I feel right now. The team has done a fantastic job, and the Octane Finance car has been brilliant all season - as our record of ten wins, countless fastest laps and a 100 per cent pole record shows.

"The Porsche Carrera Cup GB is a hugely prestigious title to win and I’m proud to have added it to my CV - and to now have two major championships at just 19 years old. The pressure will be off when we go to Brands Hatch for the final rounds, and it’ll be nice if we can celebrate the title with some more silverware there."
