Octane Finance-backed Harry King concludes 2021 campaign at Brands Hatch
Octane Finance-backed racer Harry King was in the heart of the action as his 2021 campaign in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB drew to a close at Brands Hatch.
The Team Parker Racing driver retained a chance to defending his championship title going into the weekend, and showed his fighting spirit when he topped the times in testing around the iconic Grand Prix circuit.
Harry then backed up his practice pace by blasting to pole for the ninth time in the series during qualifying, leaving him to lead the field away for the opening race of the weekend.
Although he dropped back to second on the run to turn one, Harry was soon the fastest man on track but ended up dropping back to fourth when he was run off track at Hawthorns whilst going for the lead.
Keeping his car out of the barriers and on track, Harry worked his way back up to the leader and he made his move at Stirlings on the penultimate lap.
Although he got ahead of Kiern Jewiss, a loss of momentum whilst making the move saw Lorcan Hanafin nip by, which meant Harry had to ultimately settle for second spot.
A post-race penalty for a clash with Jewiss meant Harry would line in P6 for race two and having made up a spot at the start, he once again found himself run off track on the opening lap.
From there, he would run in fifth place for the majority of the race aside from a brief moment when Hanafin nipped ahead only to then spin off into the gravel - with Harry somehow managing to avoid him.
Harry ends the season in fourth place in the standings, with his two year spell as the Porsche GB Junior Driver now coming to an end.
"I was keen to end the season - and my time as the Porsche GB Junior Driver - on a high, and we certainly had the pace to do that," he said. "We really laid a marker down in both practice and qualifying with the speed that we showed, but the races just didn't go out way.
"In both races there were incidents with the same driver that prevented us from ending the year with a win which is massively frustrating, but at the same time, the pace was clear to see.
"Winning the title last season was the obvious highlight, but there have been so many positives to take away from my two year stint as the Porsche GB Junior Driver and I've thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
"I have to say a huge thank you to Porsche for putting their faith in me, and also thank everyone at Team Parker as well as my sponsors and supporters for their backing.
"Now is the time to relax a little before looking towards 2022 and what happens next. I'd love to maintain my relationship with Porsche, but who knows what doors may now open up in future."
