In this article dedicated to the 2022 Ferrari SF90 Spider, we let you know what to expect from the supercar, how many have been made, as well as the pros and cons of Ferrari’s latest sports car family member. Read on to find out more…
What is the Ferrari SF90 Spider?
The 2022 SF90 Spider is Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid Spider model to go into production. Described as a supercar that sets new performance and innovation benchmarks, Ferrari is pulling out all the stops to make a statement within the sports car market.
An open-air supercar designed for sports car fans, the Ferrari SF90 Spider is a convertible which offers the same specification and performance as its sister model, the SF90 Stradale. However, Ferrari claims that the SF90 Spider also adds “further driving pleasure and versatility to the mix”, which is all thanks to the latest version of the marque’s signature ‘Retractable Hard Top Roof’, for which the brand is famous.
As such, the Ferrari SF90 Spider offers supercar fans the combination of proven Ferrari technology alongside the freedom and thrill that comes with open-top driving - what more could you ask for?!
What to expect from the Ferrari SF90 Spider
Ferrari fans can prepare for an exciting driving experience, as the 2022 Ferrari SF90 does not disappoint. Although it’s by no means the greatest Ferrari of all time, it is without doubt one of their most powerful models, making it their fastest road car to date.
Expect thrills aplenty and feel the wind in your hair when this high-performing beast of a car takes to the road. Under the bonnet, the SF90 Spider possesses a V8 engine to reach speeds of 0-100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. This is paired with 162 kW of eDrive power which together, unleashes a maximum output of 1,000 cv (98 bhp) for a drive like no other, which makes this plug-in hybrid a force to be reckoned with.
How fast is the Ferrari SF90 Spider?
As the fastest road car currently available from Ferrari, the 2022 SF90 Spider will certainly appeal to racing-driver wannabes. Thrill-seekers will revel in the speeds that can be achieved by the SF90 Spider, which can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 2.5 seconds. Expect a top speed of 211 mph - but save that for the race track!
Is the Ferrari SF90 Spider a supercar or hypercar?
Confirmed on the official Ferrari UK website, the SF90 Spider is in fact a supercar and not a hypercar as described by some, mainly due to the plug-in hybrid technology under the bonnet. It may be best described as a hybrid convertible supercar, which covers all bases.
How much does the Ferrari SF90 Spider cost?
We’ve already hinted that the 2022 Ferrari SF90 Spider is by no means cheap. For those hoping to invest in one, it will set you back a hefty £418,233, but if you can justify the cost, this beast of a supercar (or should we say spider?!) will be well worth the investment.
How many Ferrari SF90 Spider models will be made?
Just 500 Ferrari SF90 Spider’s have been made, so they are bound to be in demand, which may just explain the punchy price-point of this open-top supercar.
The pros and cons of a Ferrari SF90 Spider
Ferrari SF90 Spider pros
As any supercar fan knows, there are many pros to owning a Ferrari. But let’s scratch beneath the surface here; why should you invest in a Ferrari SF90 Spider over and above any other competing model on the market? Below we’ve listed some of the key pros to owning a 2022 SF90 Spider:
- For speed demons, it is currently the fastest road car available
- Achieve a top speed of 211 mph (but save this for the track!)
- A super responsive V8 engine which will turn heads when you roar past
- Razor sharp steering for a race-like driving experience
- Adaptive dampers make for an altogether smoother ride
- Convert the SF90 into an open top supercar in just 14 seconds
- The roof is well-packaged and discreet when folded down
- A jaw-droppingly good looking model
- Enjoy a luxurious interior to match the exquisite exterior
- It can be driven on electric power alone
Ferrari SF90 Spider cons
Let’s be clear here. As much as we LOVE the new Ferrari SF90 Spider (and we really do!), for us to give a fair review of the supercar, we must also bring your attention to any cons - of which there are a few. Below we’ve listed some of the main cons to owning a 2022 SF90 Spider:
- When reverting to plug-in power, you’ll lose the roar of the V8 engine in favour of an altogether silent drive
- When the roof is folded down, it does unfortunately take up what little storage space is available
- It is expensive and the list of options you’ll want to add is endless!
- It’s not very practical
- It will only reach distances of around 16-miles when using pure electric battery
- Lacks in driver-assist technology for the price
What is the Ferrari SF90 Stradale?
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is a sister model to the Ferrari SF90 Spider. A new series production supercar, the SF90 Stradale is the perfect blend of Ferrari’s race track and road cars. It encapsulates the marque’s most advanced technologies and is the first-ever Ferrari to feature Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) power.
What is the difference between the Ferrari SF90 Spider and the Ferrari SF90 Stradale?
While sharing many similarities, the main difference between Ferrari’s SF90 Spider and SF90 Stradale is that the Spider is designed and built as a road car, whereas the Stradale blends the design and performance of a track-inspired car too.
The spec sheets and performance of both supercars may be alike, but the exterior design differs somewhat; the SF90 Spider is a convertible model compared to the SF90 Stradale which is a coupé.
